Deputy Chief of Mission
Manish Prabhat assumed the charge of Deputy Chief of Mission in September 2015. He is a career diplomat who joined the Indian Foreign Service in 1996.
Manish Prabhat’s first overseas assignment was at the Indian Embassy in Moscow during 1998-99 where he served as Third Secretary. Thereafter, from 1999 to 2002, he served as Second Secretary at the Indian Embassy in Yerevan, being part of the first team which established the resident Indian Mission in Armenia.
From 2002 to 2004, Prabhat was the Desk Officer as Under Secretary at the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi looking after affairs related to Iran and Afghanistan.
During 2004 to 2008, Prabhat worked at the Embassy of India in Washington, D.C. as First Secretary and Special Assistant to Ambassador of India to USA, an important period during which India and USA signed the landmark civil nuclear agreement.
From 2008 to 2011, Manish Prabhat was assigned as Counsellor at the Embassy of India in Moscow where he was Director of the Indian Cultural Centre known as the Jawaharlal Nehru Cultural Centre run by the Indian Council for Cultural Relations, the country’s premier cultural body responsible for India’s cultural diplomacy. During this period, the “Year of India in Russia” was celebrated (2009) marked by year-long festivities featuring prominent Indian cultural troupes and artists performing in various cities of Russia. During his assignment in Moscow, Manish Prabhat also additionally held the charge of the Head of Chancery responsible for running the administrative affairs of the Mission.
Returning to the Ministry of External Affairs in New Delhi from 2011 to 2013, Prabhat served as Director of the Finance Division responsible for preparation and monitoring of budgets of the Ministry of External Affairs and the Ministry of Overseas Indian Affairs and examining their financial matters.
From 2013-2015, Prabhat was Consul General of India in Milan looking after India’s trade and commercial interests and consular affairs of 125,000 strong Indian community resident in northern Italy.
Born in 1972, Manish Prabhat received education in Patna and New Delhi. He holds a Master degree in History from Delhi University. He speaks Hindi, English and Russian. Prabhat is married to Ruchi Narain. The couple has two children.
