Ambassador of India Mr. Vinay Mohan Kwatra laid a wreath at the tomb of an unknown soldier at Arc de Triomphe, Paris and rekindled the flame on 16 December 2017 to commemorate the supreme sacrifice of Indian soldiers in World War-1. Indo- French Friendship Group Chairman at French Senate Ms. Céline Calvez and senator Mr. Rémi Féraud also joined in this commemoration ceremony. Members of Indian diaspora and several Indian community associations participated in this ceremony.

Over one million Indian troops served overseas, of whom 62,000 died and another 67,000 were wounded. In total  around 74,000 Indian soldiers died during the war. On the Western front, more than 10,000 Indian soldiers made supreme sacrifice in the World War-1.
