Pan-African e-Network Project gets The Hermes Prize

The Pan-African e-Network Project has been given ‘The Hermes Prize for Innovation 2010’ for its contribution in the field of Sustainable Human Development.

The award was announced by the European Institute of Creative Strategies and Innovation, a think-tank centre for research, expertise, reflection and for methodological support for strategies for innovation and renewal in Europe and worldwide, in meeting held on 25th May 2010 in Paris.

The award contains a certificate and a statue of Hermes.

According to the citation of the meeting : “Stemming from an initiative of the former Indian President Abdul Kalam, the Pan-African e-network is the most ambitious program of distance education and tele-medicine in Africa even undertaken: the first example of a large Project South – South development support. The best education programs and care available in India are broadcast via satellite and fiber network linking India to 54 countries in Africa. The first stage of the project, currently being deployed, was inaugurated in 2009.”

A Press Release on the inauguration of the 2nd second phase of the Pan-African e-Network Project by EAM, at TCIL Bhawan, New Delhi, on Monday 16 August 2010, is also being issued separately.
