VISA SERVICES

 a)       VFS: With effect from February 2008, the Embassy of India accepts visa applications from general public only through its outsourcing partner VF Services (UK) Ltd. at its centres in Paris, Marseille and Lyon at the following addresses:

NOTE:
Visa applications of all types (Tourist, Business, Transit, Journalist, Employment, Student etc.) are accepted by VFS on all working days Monday through Friday between 0800 hrs to 1400 hrs. Applicants may normally collect their visas after 3 working days between 1700 – 1800 hrs from the VFS counters.
Urgent visas (for delivery on the same day) will cost an additional fee of €43.00. Applications for urgent visas are accepted at VFS up to 1100 hrs only.
 
c)    Diplomatic / Official / UN Visas:
Applications for Diplomatic / Official / UN visas are accepted directly in the Consular Wing of the Embassy on all working days from 0930 to 1200 hrs. Documents required for the official purpose are:
(i)       Official Note-Verbale.
(ii)      Visa-Application form duly filled in.
(iii)    Photographs - 2.
(iv)    Passport of the applicant valid at least for six months.
 
Visa application form for Diplomatic / Official / UN / other categories of visas is available in Portable Document Format (PDF).
 
In order to view PDF documents, users must first download the free Acrobat Reader software. Detailed instructions for downloading and installing the Acrobat Reader are available at www.adobe.com/acrobat/readstep.html. For best results, please make sure you have installed version 6.0 or later of the Acrobat Reader.
 
 
Before applying for visa, please ensure that your passport is valid for at least six months from the date of application for visa.
 
There should be a minimum of three vacant pages available in your passport for endorsements. Instructions given on the visa application-form must be adhered to.
 
d)  Visa-fee: The visa-fee schedule for different kinds of visas may please be seen at: click here to see the Visa Fees Schedule (applicable from 01/07/2008)
 
Please note that VF Services (UK) Ltd. charges an additional fee of €12.00 per visa-application. The VFS charge for urgent (same day services) is €20.00. This will be in addition to the higher visa-fees charged by the Embassy for the same day service.
 
e)  Documents required for submission of Visa Applications for French nationals (excluding applicants of Pakistani/Chinese/Sri Lankan/Bangladeshi/Afghan nationality/origin):-
 
                                 i.      Tourist Visa
1. Original passport valid for at least six months and having at least three blank visa pages
2. Visa application-form duly filled in and signed by the applicant.
3. Two photographs conforming to prescribed specifications
4. Applicant may please note that general tourist visa is given for a period of six months with multiple entries and that the visa is not extendable and non-convertible in India.
Note:- In case a child’s name is endorsed on the passport of the applicant and in the event of the child travelling with the applicant, a recent passport size photograph of the child must be attached to the application. No additional visa fee is required to be paid for the child’s visa endorsement. A separate passport for the child is preferred for visa. It may be noted that a child having a separate passport will be treated as a separate applicant.
 
                               ii.      Business Visa
1. Original passport valid for the period applied for (six months or one year) and having at least three blank visa pages.
2. Two photographs conforming to prescribed specifications
3. Two visa application-forms duly filled in and signed by the applicant.
4. Two copies of a letter from the applicant’s employer in France (clearly giving name of the company and its    representative with full contact details) containing details of the person to be visited in India and contact details of    the Indian company to be dealt with.
5. Invitation from Indian company to be visited.
 
                              iii.      Entry Visa
1. Original passport valid for the period applied for (six months or one year) and having at least three blank visa pages.
2. Two photographs conforming to prescribed specifications.
3. Two visa application forms duly filled in and signed by the applicant.
4. Submission of either of the following documents as detailed below:-
(a)     Copy of Indian passport or birth certificate or livret de famille to prove‘Indian origin’ in respect of foreigners of Indian origin or foreigners married to Indians/Persons of Indian origin (PIOs).
(b)     Copy of employment visa and livret de famille to prove relationship in respect of dependents of foreigners granted Employment Visa or 5-years Business Visa.
(c)     Original letter from Secretary, Auroville and other similar institutions such as Ramachandra Ashram etc. for yoga and vedic studies.
(d)     Letter from the Indian Ministry of Home Affaires or Indian Mountaineering Foundation in respect of applicants going for mountaineering.
(e)     Letter from company/institution offering training/internship specifying emoluments etc. in respect of applicants going as trainees/interns to India.
 
                              iv.      Transit Visa
1. Original passport valid for at least six months and having at least three blank visa pages.
2. Two photographs conforming to prescribed specifications.
3. Visa application form duly filled in (all columns) and signed by the applicant.
4. Copy of air ticket showing the details of applicant’s transit through India.
5. Evidence regarding travel/visa to enter the country of final destination.
6. Applicants should note that they are allowed to stay for a maximum period of 72 hours in India with a maximum of two entries permitted under the transit visa.
 
                               v.      Employment Visa
1. Original passport valid for the period applied for (six months or more) and having at least three blank visa pages.
2. Two photographs conforming to prescribed specifications.
3. Two visa application forms duly filled in and signed by the applicant.
4. Employment Visa Proforma.
5. Original Employment Contract specifying terms and conditions of employment.
6. Certificate of incorporation of the Employer/Company.
7. Undertaking regarding recovery of Income tax in India.
8. E-Visa Company/Salary/Tax summary proforma
9. Valid resident permit for non-French nationals living in France.
10. Proof of payment of income tax (Certified copy of income tax return, Form no. 16 etc.)
 
Note: It may please be noted well that Renewal of all Employment-Visas is done only in India through the Ministry of Home Affairs, New Delhi (for the first renewal) and the State Governments/FRROs concerned for subsequent renewals.
 
                             vi.      Journalist Visa
1. Original passport valid for at least six months and having at least three blank visa pages.
2. Two photographs conforming to prescribed specifications.
3. Two visa application forms duly filled in and signed by the applicant.
4. Work attestation letter from the employer (original) and a photocopy.
5. Authorization letter from XP Division, MEA or PIC Wing, Embassy of India, Paris in case applicant intends to go for making a film in India.
6. Applicants may please note that only a single-entry visa is issued under this category with a maximum validity of 3 months.
7. Journalists who desire to work in Indian media organizations must apply for Employment Visa along with a specific undertaking from the employer.
8. It may also be noted that Journalists who intend to go to India for Tourism, are given “J” visa with an endorsement ‘going for tourism”.
 
                            vii.      Student Visa
1. Original passport valid for the period applied for/duration of the course and having at least three blank visa pages.
2. Two photographs conforming to prescribed specifications.
3. Two visa application forms duly filled in and signed by the applicant.
4. Original letter from a recognised Indian university/School/Institution confirming admission to a particular full-time course of study including detailed curriculum, course duration etc.
5. Copy of exchange agreement between the Indian institution and the French University in case of an exchange-student going to an Indian University/Institution under exchange programme.
6. Financial guarantee from a bank showing adequate balance or bank letter certifying income of parents to cover   estimated expenses @Euros 500 per month towards tuition fees, living and boarding expenses in India during the entire period of the proposed study.
 
                         viii.      Conference Visa
1. Original passport valid for the period applied for/duration of the course and having at least three blank visa pages.
2. Two photographs conforming to prescribed specifications.
3. Two visa application forms duly filled in and signed by the applicant.
4. Original letter of invitation for a Conference/Seminar as a delegate to attend an international conference/seminar held by government bodies, public sector undertakings in India.
 
f) Visa to persons of Pakistani/Chinese/Sri Lankan/Bangladeshi/Afghan nationality/origin:
 
Please note that there are special / additional requirements for visas to persons of Pakistani/Chinese/Sri Lankan/Bangladeshi/Afghan nationality/origin which may please be checked on the following relevant links.
 
 
It may also please be noted that visas to the above categories takes longer processing time which has been separately indicated against each category. 
 
g) VISA APPLICATION BY POST
 
Applicants may send their applications by post to the VFS Centre in Paris. For details please check the VFS website http://www.vfs-in-fr.com/
Please note that no visa-applications are accepted directly at the Embassy of India, Paris.
